SNL has been on the air since the beginning of time; long before television was even invented. But... is the show good? Depending on who you ask, you'll get drastically different answers. Here's my opinion.
My favorite SNL sketches of the past few years:
    "First Impression" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tDUv59Yu04Y.html
    "What's That Name?" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rImxuuD_kwM.html
    "Teacher Fell Down" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t6UkvhvqkDg.html
    "House Hunters" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ntz8KxCxgGQ.html
    "A New Kyle" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lsSYY-S_sQ4.html
"The House with Chris Pine" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mRLrWjBrJe8.html
    "Undercover Office Potty" ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KUzGrzsYqH4.html
Also some cool behind the scenes vids:
Creating SNL: Control Room ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KpAyaJuyN8s.html
Creating SNL: Hair and Makeup ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JUhTsS8JdgQ.html
Creating SNL: Photo Department ► isfilms.net/v-%D0%B2%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-86Er7_5-1J0.html
Check out this video by GrantRants, who goes in depth as to why Kyle Mooney might be wasting his career on SNL:

Man!!! Everything you said was on point! I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the political sketches these days bug me so much. I’m not a Trump supporter either, but something feels off with the sketches making fun of him. You hit the nail on the head. You’ve earned yourself another subscriber, mister.

I actually love SNL now. I've always known the show of course but never really watched it. I saw an occasional 2000's video. Like of course everyone knew The Lonely Island skits. But recently, I've gotten into it. I love Beck Bennett. He was pretty much the reason I've gotten into it. I used to watch his and Kyles YouTube videos literally 10 years ago and saw them on SNL and was like, "They look familiar..." and then one day I saw an old video of theirs and was like OMG! lmao I also ADORE Kate Mckinnon. She deserves everything she is getting right now. Very talented. And I may get murdered for this but the MOST overrated cast member (right now at least) is Kenan. I think he's funny and all but I hate how he just makes a face and people in the audience die laughing and then another member says an actual funny joke and it get silence. So it's not really him that I don't like, it's the audience. lol

I feel like all the previously funny sketches about politics all have some agenda, since they have a bias and are depicting the person in a certain way. Cecily Strong is the only reason I watch. There shouldn't be a learning period, and there should be more hit sketches than failures/mehs. Failure is not natural or necessary at their level. There are thousands of funny people on the planet begging to be on TV with reams of scripts already worked out, and yet Lorne Michaels doesn't hire them.

The problem isn't that SNL is political, the problem is that everything else is political too. They're making sketches about topics people are already tired of hearing about. Some people hate literally all politics no matter what but in general "too political" doesn't mean "don't write about politics," it means "don't write about topics they're already tired of."

Surely you have to recognize that most comedy that isn’t surface level and is actually worth a damn wants you to agree with and identify with the message because good comedy has depth and relatability. You also seem to fail at understanding how different of a president trump is to any other politician that’s been on the show. I mean how can you ignore the countless articles about the guy everyday. His entire existence is a writer’s goldmine. They aren’t going after him any harder then they went after bush in his day. Notice you forgot to mention bush was never on the show. All this ignorance comes from something you said yourself, the fact that you”re afraid to talk about politics. You even try to reason with your own ignorance. If you’re afraid to talk about your views openly then you’re not going to learn anything because you’re just staying inside your own shell. People praise others for this ignorance, that’s the sickening part. If you talked more about politics, you’d see the gaping holes in your points.

As someone who has never watched an episode, but has been shown all the "best" skits, I don't find a lot that funny. My favorite sketches are ones with actors I like, like Andy Samberg. Their style tends to carry the scenes. The "needs more cowbell" shit was not that funny.

I agree! Comedy can get political, but when it's just blatant nastiness against one side, no matter which one, isn't enjoyable anymore, their portrayal of Dianne Feinstein in the classroom was hilarious because they didn't blatantly attack her, they just made fun of the situation that she was in at the moment and exaggerated it without making her evil or stupid. People just need to have some more understanding and treat each other they way they want to be treated, and comedy is perfect for that because you can joke on both sides, or how about be on the safe side and just don't get political at all, and have people research the issues for real and not rely on the stage of entertainment for information. Idk, I guess I just get frustrated with how toxic people get with politics

I like the video. But the phrase "comedy with an agenday isn't comedy" is complete horse shit. Comedy for the longest time has been the tool of the disenfranchised to take pot shots at the elite, the upper classes. That's why the majority of truly great comedians come from the working class. And the struggle between the classes has always been political. Comedians were always at the forefront of free speech activism because the right to challenge authority in comedy is the markings of a free and just society. That's why we make jokes about the president of China looking like Winnie the Pooh. Political comedy is comedy and the most necessary. Without it, we lose the right to speak truth to power. The only time people complain about political comedy is when it's about "their guy" and they are so thin skinned that they can't take the joke.

Wow... a discussion of SNL that was only in this milenium? I'm sorry, but there was 40 years, why discuss only the last 18? So we ignore the first 6 years. The first five defined the show, which is important. But then you say "The worst season"... Yeah, you never sat through a Charlie Rocket episode did you? (Season 6). The current season is weak, and you make good points, but there's 40 year histories and you identify your nostalgia goggles but then you defend them with out looking outside them. And point at the star names, but ignore the sketches. (I love Sandburg but he's pretty well known as being weak on SNL outside of his shorts) If anyone is interested. is interested, check the first 5 season are brilliant, Season 6 is amazingly unfunny from the first minute til the second Rocket got fired. Then check out the Hartman years, til the point where Myers, Carvey and Sandler leave the show. Farrell is good, and the years that Drew point at have great sketches though I doubt they'd be the funniest. But you're entertaining enough to watch. So I guess you have a new sub.

Lenny Bruce, Dick Gregory, the Smothers Brothers, George Carlin and Jon Stewart; all comedians with political agendas. Comedy with a message has been used to protest the 'establishment' for centuries. That said, you are right in that SNL skits about Trump are different. The writers can't figure out how to gently poke fun at a mean-spirited, dishonest, uninformed POTUS.

I disagree with the idea that the purpose of comedy with an agenda is to make people agree. Look at hilarious Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby and her brilliant, critically acclaimed Netflix special Nanette. The special has an agenda, but it’s purpose is to agitate, discomfort, and most importantly to get people to listen. The woman is hilarious and not forcing her audience to be agreeable, just respectful.

Hey Drew, great video! I must, however, disagree with the statement “comedy should not have an agenda”, because the way I see it, comedy always has an agenda, whether it’s to satirize societal norms, question universal truths or reflect on the human condition- what makes comedy funny (in all of its forms be it videos, sketches or even memes) is the opportunity to laugh at the macabre nature of simply being. Perhaps why SNL has become (slightly) more political is because they have a platform every week to not only provide respites from the stressful status quo through absurdist humor, but also to not shy away or ignore what’s happening in politics, rather utilize humor as a vehicle through which to both disseminate important information and allow the public to laugh at both the ridiculous political figures in gov, and the environment they have created. Big fan of your channel, and I do love a good spreadsheet. Cheers
