Despite having the least amount of impact in the long term, the Norse settlements in North America are by far the most famous product of the Viking Expansion. http://bit.ly/EHPatreon

Norse settlements in North America maybe are most famous products in USA, but it is definitely not the case in Europe, at least not in all of it. Viking raids are much more famous, in fact viking settlements in North America in some places are considered interesting fact you may have not known.

Same, currently wanting to use the violent first meeting with the canoes in an introduction in one of my projects, but reading the actual saga, it seems like they just drew white shields as a sign of peace, landed, called them ugly, and then went on their merry way without any further altercations in that chapter. And that's considering that i'm reading it in both norwegian and danish.

not clear, how did the Vikings shape Europe and then become insignificant??? what was the Viking contribution to the Renaissance, Age of Discovery, Industrial Revolution??? who were the Viking equivalents of Archimedes, Ptolemy, Al-Khwarizmi, Aristotle, Copernicus, Omar Khayyam, da Vinci, Pasteur, Mozart or Tesla?

Please, the real reason the Vikings came to the New World was they were on a vision quest from Odin to kill the Mayans - an off-shoot of which was worshiping elder gods called The Dreamers and trying to awaken them. Munin and Hugin told me so and a narcoleptic Wabenaki medicine man named old Joseph confirmed it. Fun Fact: 98% of people will have no idea what I am referencing.

I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that the scolding for being unwomanly was added by later Christians. Because it doesn't sound very vikingy. But it sounds very old school Christian, what with their "traditional" view of gender roles.

Pidgin languages do occur between trading people as a way to communicate without learning each others languages. Whatever they came up with could have become the lingua franca of trade between Norse and Indigenous peoples in the timeline were those Europeans kept going and settling _Vinland._
