Despite having the least amount of impact in the long term, the Norse settlements in North America are by far the most famous product of the Viking Expansion. http://bit.ly/EHPatreon

Mr. Coffee Natives say they were most likely blueberries. I understand this is about expansion but, the vikings didnt stop coming after the colony failed. The relations were good enough that they shared practices of teeth filing with tribes. And viking wares and trinkets were found as far as in mic mac and iroquois territory, thats somewhat far, considering Vinland is on an island and the mic mac are on the continent. There is alot of studies on that in Canada. Where Vinland is. And we still dig for artefacts, and you can still visit the viking houses.

Too bad everyone forgot about America after the vikings left. Otherwise, all those people saying "Colombus didn't discover America, the vikings did." would be right. After all, a discovery forgotten and without any lasting impact is not worth to be called a discovery.

Someone should write a book about the alternate timeline of the Norse settlements in North America taking off like Russia did and have the setting be the present day. I wish Ray Bradbury had done it. He had such a gift for that kind of thing, like with his Fahrenheit 451 and some of his short stories.

Say what you want, but I can dig the Viking land naming convention. They were an early people with incredibly limited access to information and little knowledge of the vast world around them; sounds like a pretty sensible idea to name places based on their attributes for the sake of memory retention, and the more simple, the more practical.

Same, currently wanting to use the violent first meeting with the canoes in an introduction in one of my projects, but reading the actual saga, it seems like they just drew white shields as a sign of peace, landed, called them ugly, and then went on their merry way without any further altercations in that chapter. And that's considering that i'm reading it in both norwegian and danish.

Please, the real reason the Vikings came to the New World was they were on a vision quest from Odin to kill the Mayans - an off-shoot of which was worshiping elder gods called The Dreamers and trying to awaken them. Munin and Hugin told me so and a narcoleptic Wabenaki medicine man named old Joseph confirmed it. Fun Fact: 98% of people will have no idea what I am referencing.
